Course Number: 38
CPE Self-Study Notes:
Many employees are required to use their vehicles as a part of their job. At a minimum these employees may deduct expenses from this usage as an expense from their income tax. However, most organizations reimburse employees for these expenses. Properly done, this then becomes a deductible expense for the organization and the payments to the employees are not classified as personal income. This course explains three types of automobile allowance programs, with specific focus on Fixed and Variable Rate (FAVR) allowances. We examine FAVR regulations and how they can be utilized to benefit the employee and organization when planning fair and effective employee compensation programs.
